First Gen gas plant goes online for recommissioning

FIRST GEN Corp. announced Tuesday that one of its natural gas-fired plants in Batangas had gone online on Monday, as part of its recommissioning activities, after the repair of a generator had been completed.

Five months ago, the Lopez-led firm paused the operations of its 414-megawatt (MW) San Gabriel power plant after an incidence of tripping. It had not be dispatching power as it was investigating the issue.

In a disclosure to the local bourse on Tuesday, First Gen said that it had completed the generator’s repairs, and that the plant was “successfully restarted and placed online yesterday,” which is part of the plant’s recommissioning activities that would last for up to three days.

“They are necessary to confirm that the San Gabriel plant is performing as designed, before it resumes normal commercial operations,” First Gen said.

In a disclosure in September, First Gen said that an initial probe by Siemens Power Operations, Inc. found an electrical fault in the plant’s generator.
