Crazy Time vs Adventures Beyond Wonderland – does Evolution or Playtech have the upper hand in live game shows?

Live casino game shows are a relatively new addition to online gaming, and one that seems to be more vibrant than any other game type in the sector.

There are two games that are at the top of the market. In this article we’ll take a look at their similarities and differences and try to answer the question – which is the better one?

Since the launch of the two games in the latter part of 2020, players have been involved in a heated discussion of whether Evolution’s Crazy Time or Playtech’s Adventures Beyond Wonderland is a better online live casino game show. Both sides have their arguments which we’ll explain here.

But before we do, it must be said that Evolution is the innovator here, they created this type of game when they launched Monopoly Live, and of the two games we’re talking about here Crazy Time was the first – it went live in June 2020. Playtech followed with a copycat solution five months later.

Similarities in a nutshell

Both Crazy Time and Adventures Beyond Wonderland are entertainment games, or live show games if you will, that use a wheel-of-fortune with 54 segments as their main mechanic. In both games, you can bet on number segments and bonus segments, and the game itself is managed by a human presenter.

If the segment you bet on is a number, you’ll be paid the associated payout. If it’s a bonus round and you have a bet on it, the bonus round will play out. The numbers bets have payouts up to 10:1, and the bonus rounds are the real deal, as is evident by the hard cap on the maximum win of €500,000 in both games.

Differences in a nutshell

Adventures Beyond Wonderland has 46 numbered segments on the wheel, while Crazy Time has one less, 45. Crazy Time has four bonus rounds while Adventures has three, with an additional one, Mystery Spins.

Theoretical return to player (RTP) for Crazy Time ranges between 94.41% and 96.08%, while its countertpart has a range of 96.58% to 96.82%, indicating that the Playtech’s product has a lower house edge and could be the better game to play in the long run. This is especially true for bonus rounds that have RTP between 96.58% and 96.67% in Playtech’s game, while bonus rounds of the Evolution game have RTP between 94.41% and 95.70%, poor in comparison.

The playing experience is very similar when it comes to payouts, however. The bonus rounds payouts of the two games don’t feel that much different from each other, but there’s one notable difference. Crazy Time seems to be a bit crazier, or more volatile, than Adventures Beyond Wonderland, as you get much bigger range between good wins and bad wins. The Playtech game seems to be more consistent in terms of payouts when you reach a bonus round.

Where can you win more?

It must be said, both of these games ought to be played for fun, as the wins are far from predictable. These are live game shows that are here to entertain you and give you some chance to win big. That being said, one of these two games fulfills that purpose better than the other.

While Adventures Beyond Wonderland is a game that has a lower house edge and more predictable wins, the problem here is that the wins don’t get very big. They are possible, but very rare. On the other hand, the volatile nature of Crazy Time adds to the excitement as big wins are truly possible, though you have to get lucky to get them. But the opportunity is there – which makes all the difference a gambler needs.
